Do not use abrasive cleaners which can dull the surface of new deck boards. Always read the cleaning product manufacturers specific information before using any product on your AZEK Deck and follow their instructions. It is also a good idea to test the cleaner on a scrap piece or inconspicuous area of the deck to make sure it does not harm the surface. Always clean smaller, manageable areas and rinse often, do not allow cleaner or soap residue to dry back to surface prior to thoroughly rinsing.
WARNING: Keep children and pets away from cleaning products and AZEK Deck until dry.
Always reference the Care and Cleaning Recommendations in our installation guide for the latest recommendations of cleaning products.

Ipe Hardwood
The gold standard in decking.
Ipe (pronounced E-pay) is a South American hardwood and has natural properties that make it the toughest and longest lasting decking materials available.
Ipe decking is world renowned for its superior characteristics and properties. Ipe wood decking has an extremely dense and tight grain. The grain of ipe wood can be both wavy and straight. The color of ipe heartwood is a rich brown with red and amber hues. Due to the wood’s fine texture and interlocking grain, ipe offers superior slip resistance.
Ipe Information and Resources
Additional Benefits
- Naturally strong, durable, and decay/termite resistant
- Knot free and needs no preservative treatment
- Can be left in the “raw” or can be coated with the coating stain of your choice
- Hardness is approximately 3 times that of Oak. Because of its hardness and good dimensional stability, it is well suited for exterior/outdoor applications
- Full line of decking, dimension and accessories available
Helpful Tips
If your goal is to maintain the “like new” wood appearance of your hardwood decking or siding, there are a few things you should know to help you make the decision that works best for you. Because high-density hardwoods have such unique and long-lasting properties, here’s a few helpful tips:
- Simonson Lumber recommends Penofin oil to finish for your new deck. The Penofin finish looks great when it is first applied to hardwood decking. The natural oil finish darkens and enriches the appearance of the wood and gives it a shiny look
- As Penofin dries out, the appearance dulls over time.
- The ipe decking itself will also tend to darken with exposure to UV rays and the elements
- When it is time to refinish your ipe deck, you have a couple of options; simply clean the deck and apply a new coat or remove the old coat and start fresh again.

Armadillo Composite Decking
Armadillo Composite Decking is a low maintenance, high performance, long-lasting deck that will last you for years. Unlike pressure-treated lumber, Armadillo Composite Decking doesn’t warp, crack, or splinter so you will spend less time maintaining it.
Brown or Green Pressure Treated
Great Functionality That Won’t Break Your Budget!
An economical decking choice, pressure treated lumber is gaining strength in today’s building market. The brown treated lumber is dark brown to start, but it does fade to a more natural wood color over time.
Green pressure treated lumber will fade to a more gray color over time. Pressure treated lumber does provide long-term protection against fungus, insects, and decay.
Although pressure-treated wood is weather resistant and durable, it should be stained with an oil-based stain 30-90 days after installation (once the wood is dry) and then every 2-3 years after to prevent the deck from deteriorating and turning color over the years.
Aluminum Decking
Aluminum Deck Boards: Same Conveniences of Traditional Wood, But With Many Advantages
Aluminum deck boards are a low-maintenance decking option requiring less maintenance than wood or composite decking. Aluminum decking is very resistant to elements, such as water, sunlight, insects and even fire that can damage other types of decking materials, and the powder-coated aluminum finish never needs to be stained or sealed. Your aluminum deck should be washed periodically with mild soap and soft brush– no pressure washer required!
Aluminum decks stay cooler to the touch than wood or composite decking when exposed to extreme temperatures because aluminum decking reflects and dissipates heat better than wood and composite decking materials.
Aluminum decking is excellent for marine applications as the decking is not susceptible to the same warping, rotting, splitting and fading problems that can be common with wood and composite decking in marine environments.
Cedar
The Natural Choice for Outdoors
The natural elegance of Real Cedar creates an inviting environment and adds distinction to your outdoor retreat. The durability, strength and natural resistance to decay and damage from insects make cedar a reliable choice. At Simonson Lumber, you can be assured that our cedar products offer both long term performance and attractiveness.
To protect your new cedar deck, most professionals will recommend you stain your cedar deck when the lumber is dry (from a few weeks to six months, depending on the weather and the condition of the lumber). A horizontal surface should be restained every two to five years, depending on wear. Properly preparing, cleaning and drying the surface before applying a stain will yield the best results for the stain to last.
